WHAT ARE COOKIES?

Cookies are small text files sent from the site to the user’s device (usually to the browser), where they are stored and then retransmitted to the site during the user's next visit. A cookie cannot retrieve any other data from the user's hard drive, nor transmit computer viruses, nor acquire email addresses. Each cookie is unique to the user’s web browser. Some cookie functions may be assigned to other technologies. In this document, the term ‘cookie’ refers to both cookies and all similar technologies.

Cookies can be used to store information about your preferences, such as the pages you browse or the files you download from our site, or other similar actions taken while browsing our website.

FIRST-PARTY OR THIRD-PARTY COOKIES

Cookies can be either first-party or third-party, where "first-party" refers to cookies created by the owner of the site itself, and "third-party" refers to cookies created by external entities not controlled by the owner of the site.

TYPES OF COOKIES

There are several types of cookies:

Technical Cookies

Technical cookies are used solely to “transmit a communication over an electronic communications network, or as strictly necessary for the provider of a service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide such a service” (see Article 122, paragraph 1, of the Code).

They are not used for additional purposes and are typically installed directly by the website owner or manager. They can be divided into:

– browsing or session cookies, which ensure normal navigation and use of the website (allowing, for example, users to complete a purchase or log in to access reserved areas); these are necessary for the correct functioning of the site;

– analytics cookies, which are considered technical cookies when used directly by the website manager to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they visit the site to improve the site’s performance;

– functional cookies, which allow users to navigate according to a set of selected criteria (e.g., language, products selected for purchase) to improve the service provided. Prior consent from users is not required to install these cookies (more information is available in the "Managing cookies" section below).

Profiling Cookies

Profiling cookies are used to create user profiles and to send advertising messages aligned with the user’s preferences shown while browsing the web.

User consent is required to use profiling cookies. According to the provision no. 229 of May 8, 2014, the user must be able to authorize or deny consent to the installation of profiling cookies, if present.

For third-party cookies, the site does not have direct control over individual cookies and cannot manage them (it can neither install them directly nor delete them). However, you can manage these cookies via your browser settings (follow the instructions below) or the websites indicated in the "Managing cookies" section.

The User is therefore invited to check the relevant third-party site as indicated below.

COOKIE DURATION

Cookies have a duration set by the expiration date (or specific action such as closing the browser) determined at the time of installation. Cookies can be:

  • temporary or session cookies: used to store temporary information, allowing actions performed during a specific session to be linked, and are removed from the computer when the browser is closed;
  • persistent cookies: used to store information such as the username and password so that users do not have to re-enter them every time they visit a specific site. These remain on the computer even after the browser is closed.

Session cookies are not stored after the connection to this website ends. The computer systems used for this site use both temporary cookies and persistent cookies.
